This is a double-decker barfi , or a two layered fudge, a traditional Indian sweet made during festivals such as Diwali.

To make milk barfi

1/2  cup milk powder,Nido
¼ cup ground sugar
2 tbsp butter/ghee
2 tbsp milk

To make chocolate barfi

½ cup milk powder, Nido
¼ cup ground sugar
2 tbsp butter/ghee
2 tbsp milk
2 tbsp cocoa powder

Grease a square tin.
Heat  butter/ghee in a heavy based pan.
Add milk powder, milk and sugar.
Cook on a very slow flame till it thickens and leaves side. Should take under 8 minutes for the whole process. Whisk the batter vigorously throughout the process so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
Before it sets completely, quickly pour the batter into your prepared tin and smooth over the surface.

Leave it to cool for an hour in the refrigerator.

In the mean time repeat the process with the other half and add cocoa powder to it.
Spread the chocolate mixture on top of the white layer and smoothen the top with a greased spatula/spoon. Let it set.

Cut into bite-sized pieces with a pizza cutter.
Once cut, it should be stored in an airtight container.

Serve at room temperature.
Will keep, in a sealed container, for up to 1 week.

Makes about 16 pieces.
